Basic training in emergency care is particularly important in rebel-held areas of Aleppo as qualified medics are few and far between.
Female pupils at the Sanabel al-Amal School in Aleppo received training in first aid at a workshop organised by the Syrian Free Women’s Forum.
A doctor and a nurse led the training in how to deal with medical emergencies, a frequent occurrence given the daily bombing of opposition-held neighbourhoods of Aleppo. The 25 trainees learned about basic anatomy, about measuring blood pressure, and about how to deal with various kinds of bone fracture.
At the end of the workshop, the trainees were given certificates showing what they had learned. More courses of this kind are planned throughout the summer vacation.
