More than 200 saplings have been planted in northern Qamishli as part of an environmental campaign to combat pollution.
Some 20 civil society institutions recruited 75 volunteers for the “Towards Green Communities” campaign. The aim was to minimise the effects of pollution exacerbated by the frequent use of generators that rely on refined fuel.
Participating organisations coordinated with Qamishli’s al-Shaab municipality to care for the trees and irrigate them. The project coincided with another campaign to trim and graft trees planted on public roads.
