Abu Abdo’s Weaving Workshop
Abu Mohammed, the owner of the last remaining weaving workshop in Ariha city, is determined to keep his business going so as to pass his skills on to his children and grandchildren. He fears that the valuable local tradition may die out if he closes the workshop.
He faces serious challenges, including ensuring a supply of yarn and transporting the finished product via unsafe roads. With the country divided into opposition and pro-regime areas, the market for his goods is also dwindling.
Our reporter Abdulla Klido visited the weaving workshop in Ariha city in the southern Idlib countryside and interviewing those trying to keep the historic local craft alive.
