News Flash Syria, April 28, II

More than 425 detainees were released on Tuesday April, 26, who demonstrated in Deir al-Zour. Some of them were released from the security branches, and others from the Justice Palace after they having been referred to the courts. The reception for the released turned into celebration;  they were welcomed with loud chants against Jameh Jameh, the chief of military security branch in Deir al-Zour, and people also called for freedom. At this time, the released men were chanting “our appointment on Friday”.

About 115 of the released detainees were held in the State Security Branch, about 260 in the Political Security and others in the military and air branches. It was noted that the detainees, especially those held in the military security branch, were brutally tortured, including pulling out toenails to prevent them from participating in coming Friday´s demonstrations.  There are still at least 200 detainees in Deir Alzor not yet released, while other sources suggest that the number of detainees is higher than that. The young Firas Mustafa Bakri from Jableh who was arrested in an Internet cafe, is still in detention. It is worth mentioning that the released detainees are still under legal persecution.
