More than 100 women and children have been released in a prisoner swap between the regime and armed opposition groups in Qalaat al-Madiq in the northern Hama countryside.
The move followed two months of negotiations by the General Organization for Prisoners Affairs and took place in the presence of the Syrian Red Crescent.
Lead negotiator Zeid Abu Zeid said, “After the exchange, we saw the real joy of a mother reunited with her son or a woman reunited with her husband. We will work on other initiatives, we won’t stop here.”
